How Search Engines Work & Techniques Used In SEO

-->
How Search Engines Work: First, search engines crawl the Web to see what is there. This task is performed by a piece of software, called a crawler or a spider (or Googlebot, as is the case with Google). Spiders follow links from one page to another and index everything they find on their way. Having in mind the number of pages on the Web (over 20 billion), it is impossible for a spider to visit a site daily just to see if a new page has appeared or if an existing page has been modified, sometimes crawlers may not end up visiting your site for a month or two.

Techniques Used In SEO: SEO is a Search Engine Optimization. And in SEO we used two types of techniques in it i.e.
  1. WHITE HAT SEO
  2. BLACK HAT SEO
WHITE HAT SEO: White hat SEO encompasses the ethical side of search engine optimisation. SEO does have a time and place, and when used correctly, it has the ability to dramatically improve a website’s visibility and search engine rankings to increase sales.
When using white hat SEO, keyword research comes into play. A website owner should research keywords that customers are searching for to reach their website. They can then include these keywords naturally within the pages, meta-tags, and descriptions of their website to improve their visibility in the search engines.
They can also publish high-quality content online linking their keywords back to their website to naturally increase their back links and improve their search engine rankings.
Additionally, white hat SEO tactics involve building the authority and presence of a website to naturally increase back links to the website to improve search engine rankings. Instead of swapping or purchasing links unethically, a website using white hat SEO would publish high-quality content, guest blog, reach out to customers through social media, and circulate information to gain trustworthy links back to their website.
BLACK HAT SEO: Black hat SEO is a category of unethical and manipulative search engine optimisation. In fact, it is black hat SEO that has given SEO a bad name in Internet marketing. Black hat SEO involves tactics like keyword stuffing, which is including an excess amount of keywords within a single page of web content for the purpose of attracting the search engines. Unfortunately, this tactic is ineffective because the content becomes illegible to the website visitor, and in many cases, keyword stuffing will also cause a website to be penalised by Google.
Another black hat SEO tactic is spamming through the meta-tags on a website. Search engines are constantly on the lookout for meta-tags stuffed full of popularly searched keywords that may not relate to the actual content of the website. Again, this tactic will cause a website to be penalised by the search engines.
Other black hat SEO tactics like link farming and buying links are widely discouraged in search engine optimisation circles. In the earlier days of search engine optimisation, many website owners relied upon purchasing links from other websites in the hopes of improving their search engine rankings.
While this did work for several years, Google has now caught on to the fact that specific websites will sell links to other websites. If you were to purchase a link from another website, it is likely that Google would find out and either count the link as No Follow or penalise your website as a result.

Search engine optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO): Search Engine Optimization is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's "natural" or un-paid ("organic") search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.

SEO is a technique which helps search engines find and rank your site higher than the millions of other sites in response to a search query. SEO thus helps you get traffic from search engines.

Important SEO Tips

-->
  1. Always use specific keywords and not a broad one (such as "fashion", "internet", "sports", etc) in optimizing your website.

  2. Generate and resubmit your site map file every time you make changes to your website. By resubmitting, you can always tell Google about your changes. Consult the Google Site maps help for more information of how to do this.

  3. Google Site maps provides a number of statistics about your website. You can use it to know how Google and people find your site. It is very useful to help you improve your website content. Consult the Google Site maps help for more information about this.

  4. After getting indexed by Google, increase the number of websites that link to your website and create more unique content to improve your website rankings.

  5. You can also submit your site map to the other top search engines but check the resources to find out how to do that for each specific search engine. They all are different.

  6. Use as much text as possible and this fact is key: Search spiders do not see what an image looks like, so describe it with words, and don't forget to use your key phrases.

Best Practices for Ranking #1

-->
Curiously, though perhaps not entirely surprisingly to experienced SEOs, the truth is that on-page optimization doesn't necessarily rank first in the quest for top rankings. In fact, a list that walks through the process of actually getting that first position would look something more like:

  1. Accessibility - content engines can't see or access cannot even be indexed; thus crawl-ability is foremost on this list.

  1. Content - you need to have compelling, high quality material that not only attracts interest, but compels visitors to share the information. Virality of content is possibly the most important/valuable factor in the ranking equation because it will produce the highest link conversion rate (the ratio of those who visit to those who link after viewing).

  1. Basic On-Page Elements - getting the keyword targeting right in the most important elements (titles, URLs, internal links) provides a big boost in the potential ability of a page to perform well.

  1. User Experience - the usability, user interface and overall experience provided by a website strongly influences the links and citations it earns as well as the conversion rate and browse rate of the traffic that visits.

  1. Marketing - I like to say that "great content is no substitute for great marketing." A terrific  marketing machine or powerful campaign has the power to attract far more links than content may "deserve," and though this might seem unfair, it's a principle on which all of capitalism has functioned for the last few hundred years. Spreading the word is often just as important (or more so) than being right, being honest or being valuable (just look at the political spectrum).

  1. Advanced/Thorough On-Page Optimization - applying all of the above with careful attention to detail certainly isn't useless, but it is, for better or worse, at the bottom of this list for a reason; in our experience, it doesn't add as much value as the other techniques described.

Analysis Your Website

-->
  1. Index Pages: Check that your site is indexed (Getting your pages indexed in search engines is important - without being indexed, your website will be all but impossible to find.)
  2. Keyword Stuffing: Avoid keyword stuffing (This is not good for a website whose links we place. Excessive use of keywords in web page is called keyword stuffing. Google dislikes black hat tactics like SEO keyword stuffing because those methods focus on beating the search engine algorithm rather than a great user experience.
  3. Title Tag: Create useful page titles (Title is the most important part of your Web page. It tells people what your page is about and what they can expect to find on the page.)
  4. Meta Description: Relevant page descriptions (Meta Descriptions, which are HTML attributes that provide concise explanations of the contents of web pages, are commonly used by search engines on search result pages to display preview snippets for a given page.)
  5. Social Media Sites: Create and work on Google profile and more social sites (Social Networking allows visitors to share quality links through public websites. This means that when a visitor likes your site, he / she can easily recommend it in his / her favorite social networking portal. Google+, Facebook,Twitter is most popular social networking sites that you can use to promote your website)
  6. Sitmap: Generate and upload sitemap (Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling.)
  7. High Quality Links: Build High Quality Links (Google is world’s best search engine and the best when it comes down to searching ‘keywords’. So to rank well in Google, you have to impress them by gaining high quality back links to your site. High Quality Links also engage the web and drive traffic to your site)
  8. Crawl errors:Crawl errors lists any pages on your site that Google was unable to access, and why we couldn’t crawl them. Addressing these issues can help ensure that all the content on your site can be successfully crawled by search engines.
  9. Google analytics: Google Analytics provides powerful tracking for anyone with a web presence, large or small. It's one of the most powerful web analytics solutions on the market - and it's free for anyone to use. No matter how your website affects you and your business, Analytics has something for everyone.
  10. Google Web Master Tool: Google Analytics provides powerful tracking for anyone with a web presence, large or small. It's one of the most powerful web analytics solutions on the market - and it's free for anyone to use.
  11. Images and video Submissions: Image and Videos help in conveying your message easily there by increasing your sales, improving your reputation and also increasing website traffic.
